Physics with Maths PGCE

From September 2012 you will be able to study for a PGCE in physics with mathematics.

Available at over 30 teacher training providers in England, this new course option will train you to teach physics and will replace the subsidiary chemistry and biology content included in a mainstream Physics PGCE course with maths.

Physics and mathematics are a very natural subject combination and this new course will appeal to prospective teachers who:

  • can’t decide whether to specialise in physics or mathematics
  • have a mathematical physics or engineering background but have been deterred from physics teaching by the prospect of having to teach biology and chemistry, subjects with which they may have much less familiarity.

Both subjects are experiencing a shortage of specialist teachers in schools.  We believe that trained physics teachers who are also equipped to teach maths are a practical solution to solving this problem and will be hugely attractive to schools.
