Physics is the Cinderella of the sciences when talking about Human Body function. This lecture shows how its role is taken for granted and often under-valued compared to its two ugly sisters Chemistry and Biology. We will explore how the same physical principles determine the size of an aneurysm, the characteristic tone of flatulence or the curvature of a David Beckham free-kick.

RCUK Review of UK Physics

Professor Bill Wakeham (chair of the Review) highlights the key recommendations of the RCUK Review of UK Physics, which was commissioned to examine the health of the entire discipline of physics, and the priorities and challenges facing the discipline in the future. Other contributions are made by Professor Ian Diamond (RCUK), and Professor Peter Main (IOP). The meeting was chaired by Professor John Chapman (University of Glasgow).

Newton Lecture 2008 - Quantum Information and the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics
